Terms and Conditions
Welcome to LaBelle’s Rent-a-Car. We want your experience with us to be smooth, honest, and hassle-free. That starts with transparency about our policies. Whether you’re renting for a weekend getaway, a work trip, or an extended stay in Iron Mountain, MI, it’s important to understand our terms and conditions. Below, you’ll find all the key details that apply when you rent from us. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call or stop by—we’re always happy to walk you through it.
Rental Agreement Basics
When you rent from us, you’re entering into a rental agreement. This includes everything from the inspection form to any add-ons. You, the renter (and any authorized driver), agree to follow the terms outlined here.
We (LaBelle’s Rent-a-Car) remain the owner of the vehicle throughout the rental. You are renting it for a specific period and are expected to return it in the same condition you received it—excluding normal wear.
Who Can Drive
Only drivers authorized by us may operate the vehicle. To qualify:
- You must be at least 21 years old
- You must hold a valid driver’s license
- You must be named on the rental agreement
If someone not listed as an authorized driver operates the vehicle, any damage will be the responsibility of the person who is named on the rental agreement.
Fuel Policy
You are expected to return the vehicle with the same level of fuel it had when you picked it up—typically a full tank. If the fuel is low upon return, you will be charged a refueling fee.
Insurance and Credit Card Requirements
You must carry full coverage, transferable auto insurance to rent from us. Your insurance policy must include liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage that applies to a rental vehicle.
We also require a major credit card for all rentals. Prepaid cards and debit cards are not accepted for securing your rental.
Prohibited Uses
To keep our vehicles safe and in good condition, we have a strict policy on how they can be used. Prohibited uses include:
- Driving by someone who is not an authorized driver
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Using the vehicle in any race, speed test, or illegal activity
- Towing, pushing, or hauling oversized loads
- Off-road driving or traveling outside the U.S. or Canada
- Transporting more passengers than there are seat belts
- Using the vehicle with unsecured cargo
- Smoking or vaping in the vehicle
- Transporting pets (unless they are service animals)
Violating any of these rules may result in termination of the rental and full financial responsibility for any damages or losses.
Damage, Loss, and Liability
You are financially responsible for:
- Any damage to or theft of the vehicle during your rental
- Costs for repairs, diminished value, towing, and storage
- “Loss of Use” charges if the vehicle cannot be rented due to damage
- Administrative fees based on the extent of damage
- Any violation fines, tolls, or impound fees incurred while the vehicle is in your possession
If an accident or incident occurs, you must report it to us and to the police immediately. You’ll also be required to complete our incident report form.
Additional Fees and Charges
Here are some situations that may result in added charges:
- Smoking in the vehicle
- Excessively dirty or messy return condition
- Lost keys or toll transponders
- Returning the vehicle late or to a different location without prior approval
- Bounced checks or late payments
- Early or late returns that change the rental rate
- Administrative fees for unpaid tolls or violations
Personal Property
We are not responsible for any personal items left in the vehicle. If you leave something behind, we’ll hold it for 30 days, but after that, it may be disposed of. Please make sure to remove all personal belongings—including anything synced to the vehicle’s infotainment system—before returning the vehicle.
GPS and Vehicle Monitoring
Some vehicles may have GPS or other telematics systems installed. These may be used to track vehicle status, location, or mileage. This is strictly for safety, monitoring, and compliance purposes. You agree to inform all passengers that such systems may be in use.
Final Notes
This agreement cannot be changed unless it’s done in writing and signed by both parties. Our acceptance of late returns or failure to enforce any portion of this policy does not waive our rights under the agreement.
If you violate the agreement, we may pursue legal action or report the incident to law enforcement. We also reserve the right to charge your credit card for any unpaid fees.
