What You Need to Know Before You Rent in Iron Mountain, MI
At LaBelle’s Rent-a-Car, we believe the rental process should be easy, transparent, and tailored to fit real people—not just travelers passing through. Whether you’re here for work, vacation, or just need a temporary vehicle while yours is in the shop, we want to help you get on the road with confidence. Below, you’ll find all the essential rental requirements and policies you’ll need to know before picking up a car from us.
Age Requirement: 21 and Up
To rent or drive one of our vehicles, you must be at least 21 years old. This policy applies whether you’re the primary renter or an additional driver. If you’re under 21, we won’t be able to complete a rental agreement, even if you meet the other requirements.
We understand this might be a bit different from some other places, but our goal is to balance accessibility with responsible rental standards—and this is one of the key parts of that.
Insurance Requirements: Full Coverage Only
Every renter must carry full coverage auto insurance that is fully transferable to a rental vehicle. That means your policy must include both liability and comprehensive/collision coverage that applies to rental cars.
If you’re unsure whether your current insurance qualifies, it’s always a good idea to contact your insurance company ahead of time. You’ll want to confirm that your coverage includes rentals and that it doesn’t exclude third-party providers like ours.
Without proof of valid, transferable full coverage insurance, we won’t be able to release a vehicle.
Payment Requirements: Major Credit Card Required
We require a major credit card for all rentals—no exceptions. Prepaid cards, debit cards, or cash deposits are not accepted for vehicle authorizations or payments.
Your credit card will be used to secure the rental and may be authorized for the estimated rental charges at the time of pickup. This policy helps us keep our rental process secure and reliable for all of our customers.
Fuel Policy: Return It Full
All vehicles must be returned with the same amount of fuel they left with—typically a full tank. We do this to keep things fair and consistent for every customer.
If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than it had at pickup, a refueling fee will be added to your rental total. We recommend filling up before returning the vehicle at one of the nearby gas stations along U.S. 2 or Stephenson Avenue.
Pet Policy: No Pets Allowed in Vehicles
We love animals, but unfortunately, pets are not allowed in our rental vehicles. This policy helps us maintain a clean and allergy-friendly environment for all renters. Pet hair, odors, and potential damage can be difficult to fully remove, especially in the colder months when cleanup is more difficult.
If a vehicle is returned with signs of pet presence, an additional cleaning fee may be charged.
One-Way Rentals: Not Available
At this time, we do not offer one-way rentals. All vehicles must be picked up and returned to our rental location in Iron Mountain. If you’re flying into Ford Airport, we’re happy to arrange airport pickup or drop-off (during business hours) for a small fee, but the vehicle must be returned locally.
Our service is designed to support our local community and short-term travelers staying in the area—not long-distance relocations. We encourage you to plan accordingly to ensure your rental fits within our local-use policy.
